Radio, Music and Netroots
Hello and welcome to the "News" section of our website. We'll be posting every couple of weeks to let you know where the film will be screening, and may even venture into some other writing about the process and background behind the making of the film. So here we go -
We're screening at three interesting festivals/conferences in the next month.
KNON 89,3FM in Dallas, TX is one of the community radio stations that ACORN founded in the early 80s. There are a couple of shots in the middle of our film of a parade they organized in the mid-80s (look for the dude in the Ronald Reagan mask!) KNON is still going strong and on July 15 they are holding a mini-festival at the Texas Theatre (infamous as the theatre where Lee Harvey Oswald was discovered after the JFK assassination.) The Organizer is playing at 2pm. The other films look great too. Wish we could be there!
The Scruffy City Film and Music Festival in Knoxville, TN has a unique approach to film selection - they program their films with an emphasis on music and soundtrack and we are chuffed we were invited based on this criteria as we are very proud of the score by Justin Small and Ohad Benchetrit, as well as the additional music by Christopher Sandes and Owen Belton, and of course the songs that were contributed by Bob Dylan, Doug Paisley, Lucinda Williams and Isla Craig. I was a semi-pro musician for a decade before I became a filmmaker and music is still integral to my work and my life. We screen on July 28th - it's going to be a fun one and I'm hoping I can attend.
Finally, we will be screening at this year's Netroots Nation conference in New Orleans. Netroots is the largest conference in North America for progressive organizations and activists. I have looked over the agenda and the all panels look fascinating. Keynote speakers have not yet been announced but previous speakers have included Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. But enough about them - because Wade Rathke will be in attendance to represent the film and his work!
We have some news in the pipeline about distribution. Stay tuned for that. Organize!
